Infosec Institute’s exam pass guarantee is real, and plenty of students say it paid out. The catch, reported again and again from 2019 to 2025, is the qualifying condition: you have to score 90% or better on Infosec’s own long practice exams before the guarantee applies.

Below are students’ accounts, quoted exactly and linked, followed by a summary of Infosec’s own published terms. Ask Infosec for the written terms that apply to your course before you pay.

What do you have to do to qualify for the guarantee?

The 90% threshold is the most consistent detail across the years.

  • 2019, CISSP: “The big catch is that you have to take one 100 question pre-assessment and 6 of their 250 question exams in their web portal and get a score of over 90% on each of them.” (u/iheartrms on r/cissp)
  • 2019, CISSP, same student mid-way through: “Each one takes me nearly 5 hours. It’s very tedious.” (u/iheartrms on r/cissp)
  • 2019, CISSP: the boot camp “makes you pass a 250-question test exam every day for 6 days straight and score at least 90% each time (you can keep taking it until you pass) to get the exam guarantee.” (u/gibson_mel on r/cissp)
  • 2019, PMP: Infosec “had a “pass guarantee” with the requirements that you did the Pre-boot camp videos as well as their assessment.” (u/mklem on r/pmp)
  • 2024, CISSP: “it only applies if you get a 90% or more on their internal test” (u/Optimal_Lab_5058 on r/cissp)
  • 2025, CISM: “you need to get a 90% on their practice test first but you can do that as many times as you want” (u/Natural_Sherbert_391 on r/cism)

One student did the math on what that means. In 2022 they wrote: “I had to pass every single one of their practice tests with a score of 90% or better. That’s over 3000 questions! If you can do that such that you qualify for the guarantee there is little chance that you won’t pass! So i expect they very rarely have to make good on the guarantee.” (u/iheartrms on r/cissp) In fairness, the same student passed and called the boot camp “money well spent.”

Are there timing limits?

Students say yes. In 2018 one wrote: “If you want to get the free retake, you gotta take the test essentially right after the boot camp.” (u/GatoradeBottle4L on r/cissp) A 2024 commenter mentioned a “3 month limit.” (u/Elegant_Brief on r/cissp) The same 2018 student added in another thread that the free retake applied to the online course and “that offer doesn’t extend to in person classes,” which shows the terms have varied by format. (u/GatoradeBottle4L on r/ccna)

How does the payout work?

Recent accounts describe a card or reimbursement, not a voucher handed over at the end of class.

  • 2023: the voucher “is just an E-VISA card for which you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to activate.” (u/TripperE10 on r/cissp)
  • 2025: “If you fail the first time, all you need to do is upload your proof of failure and then they issue you a gift card that you use to pay for the next exam.” (u/tebdjduzv on r/cissp)
  • 2025: “they reimbursed my exam cost when I sent screenshot. I received check within 3 days.” (u/thisoneandthatone11 on r/cissp)

Does Infosec actually honor it?

Mostly, by these accounts, once you qualify. A 2025 CISM student reported “No problems getting the voucher” and classmates retaking the course free. A 2016 student who got sick during class was allowed to sit “a few weeks later at no charge.” But there are exceptions. In 2019 a student who had to call in wrote: “Still no guarantee that they’ll give me the retake but they had me send them my test scores.” (u/Stiigmatic on r/cissp) And in September 2025 an RHCSA student wrote: “Right now I am trying to get them to honor their “Exam Pass Guarantee” but they are putting me through the ringer” (u/UltraDirektor on r/redhat)

What do Infosec’s own published terms say?

Infosec’s guarantees page, as it read on October 7, 2026, confirms most of what students describe, and adds conditions they rarely mention. In summary:

  • You must attend at least 85% of each class day.
  • Your score on the final practice exam must be at least 90%.
  • You must sit the certification exam within 90 days of finishing the course, and, if you fail, upload the official failure notice within 90 days of finishing.
  • Online and in-person boot camps are covered, with exclusions. CMMC-AB and PMP courses use separate “exam insurance” terms.
  • If a promotion already gave you a second voucher, that doesn’t entitle you to a third.
  • The satisfaction provision requires you to contact your sales representative by the end of the first day. It allows one course change, and any transfer credit must be used within 60 days, with you paying any increase in course price. Miss that deadline and eligibility ends.
  • For employer-paid training, a replacement employee can take the course if the original employee leaves within three months of certifying, used within one year of the original training.

Two things stand out to me. First, the 90-day exam window and 90-day failure-notice deadline run from the end of the course, so a slow voucher eats into your time. Second, the “satisfaction” terms describe a course change or transfer credit, not a cash refund, and you have one day to raise it.

Infosec’s CISSP boot camp page describes the guarantee as a second exam attempt after a first failure, plus the option to repeat the course for up to one year. It lists the six-day CISSP boot camp at $4,399, including an exam voucher, practice exams, 90 days of access to recordings and a 90-day Infosec Skills subscription.

Is the guarantee a reason to choose Infosec?

It’s a safety net, not a teaching method. The 90% bar means the people who qualify are mostly people who would have passed anyway, and the work to qualify is substantial: one student estimated around 30 hours on the practice exams alone. Several students who used the guarantee still called the boot camp itself weak. One, who needed the retake, said the boot camp was “absolutely pointless in terms of learning/retaining material.” If you buy for the guarantee, get every condition in writing first: the score threshold, how many practice exams, the deadline to sit the exam, and how the second attempt is paid.
